AmSurg is Hiring a Medical Records Scanner (Part-Time) Near Bedford, TX

Medical Records Scanner

This is a Part time 24-29 hours per week position requiring 3-3.5 days per week. Monday- Friday, no weekends or holidays.

This is a medical record scanning position which requires compiling, verifying, and filing of medical records. Scanning paper medical records into a computerized chart. Audits what is scanned in for completeness and accuracy, ensuring they are scanned into the correct patient chart. Ability to operate the computer to retrieve data is a must. Cross training to work as recovery room tech as needed. Job requirements are listed below.

Responsible For:

  • Compiles, verifies, and files medical records by performing the following duties
  • Reviews medical records for completeness, assembles records into standard order, and files records in designated areas
  • according to applicable alphabetic and numeric filing systems
  • Files processed labs, pathology reports, and loose correspondence into patient records once physician has reviewed and signed appropriately
  • Responds to requests for information from files according to established policies and procedures
  • Operates computer to retrieve data and file signed correspondence and reports
  • Maintains alphabetic filing system by organizing patient records on shelves to ensure records are readily accessible by all department
  • Answers calls from Clinical staff pertaining to medical records
  • Completes, mails, faxes, and files physician’s transcription documentation
  • Comply with federal HIPAA regulations and practice policies for the privacy and security of patient information; explain
  • the law and our privacy policy to patients as needed; maintain appropriate documentation of access to medical records
  • Selects, pulls, and processes files for year-end purging
  • Ensures that all records are completed with all required signatures and documentation
  • Maintains continuity of work operations by documenting and communicating irregularities, and continuing needs
  • Maintains patient confidence by keeping patient records information confidential
  • Provides copies of patient records when requested while maintaining all regulatory standards for privacy and security
  • Completes all scanning as needed
  • Reviews patient records for accuracy and completeness and obtain any missing information
  • Manages offsite medical record storage as needed
  • Demonstrates courtesy and helpfulness toward patients and their families
  • Attends all required education
  • Regular and predictable attendance
  • Check for sequential assembly of chart documents.
  • Audit for completeness and accuracy of chart scanning
  • Disinfect and make patient beds after discharge.
  • Disinfect monitor cords, B/P cuffs, clip boards, and other accessories
  • Assist patients to dress when needed
  • Reports observed changes in patient condition to Endoscopy/Recovery Room nurse (if applicable)
  • Put patient charts in order for nurses
  • Prepare pathology specimens for pick-up
  • Stock bedside cubicles with supplies including 02 and suction supplies
  • Refill refrigerator with soft drinks as needed.
  • Refill blanket warmer with blankets when needed
  • Add paper to printer (doctor printer) when needed
  • Take patients off the monitor if directed to do so by the RN
  • Check charts for completeness and flag missing signatures prior to charts leaving PACU area
  • Assists with maintaining adequate inventory of supplies

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • BLS Certification
